Summary: Photostat copies of three letters, 1881 to 1882: M.C. Logan to C.C. Lewis, Aug. 28, 1881, concerning disposition of letters written to Byers following a report of his death; Ike Clanton, Charleston, Ariz., to Billy Byers, Leavenworth, Kansas, Feb. 14, 1882 concerning Earps; and from W. R. McLaury, Tombstone, to Mr. and Mrs. Applegate, Toledo, Iowa, Nov. 17, 1881, concerning trying to get results in Tombstone after the shoot out. The location of the originals is unknown. Also present are newspaper clippings including a Colorado obituary for Byers in 1949.

Biographical note: William W. Byers was born in Illinois in 1859 and later raised by an uncle in Leavenworth, Kansas. He worked for several cattle ranches in Arizona and was once reported dead following an attack on the Newman Clanton party at Guadalupe Canyon in 1881. He studied law in Leavenworth, was married to Minnie Harrison in 1883, and had six children. He served as undersheriff of Leavenworth County before moving to Dolores, Colorado where he died in 1949.
